Hyderabad: Stressing that Hyderabad plays a vital role in life sciences across the country and worldwide, Telangana IT and Industries Minister KT Rama Rao inaugurated the upcoming 19th edition of the BioAsia, the annual flagship event of the life sciences industry here on Thursday.


The seminar, that will be held over two days, will discuss topics Life Sciences - Covid challenges in the health sector.


On the occasion, KTR said in the last one year, the state attracted investments of over Rs 6,400 crore in the life sciences sector from around 215 enterprises, resulting in more than 34,000 new jobs.


He added that the investment in 2021 is over 200 per cent higher than the investment in the previous year, demonstrating the growing importance of Hyderabad's life science ecosystem.

KTR said Genome Valley stands as the backbone for developing the life sciences sector in the state. He said he was looking forward to the discussion with Bill Gates.


The minister further stated that Covid has put the focus on the healthcare sector and the need to build a strong healthcare ecosystem.


Hyderabad continues to leave a mark on the global life sciences industry. Hyderabad has created two of the three adult Covid vaccinations and two vaccines for children, he said.


 



Asia's largest Life-Sciences Healthcare Forum is hosting the BioAsia Summit 2022 (BioAsia) in Hyderabad. About 50 celebrities from various organisations, including Bill Gates, WHO scientist Soumya Swaminathan and NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant will address the conference.
