Scuffle Breaks Out Between BRS, BJP And Congress Workers At A Polling Station In Telangana

The incident occurred at a polling station in Jangaon Assembly Constituency. However, a contingent of police reached the spot and brought the situation under control.

A scuffle broke out between Congress, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers while voting was underway for Telangana Assembly Election on Thursday. The incident occurred at a polling station in Jangaon Assembly Constituency. However, a contingent of police reached the spot and brought the situation under control.

The purported video of the scuffle was caught on camera and shared on social media.

According to the video footage, an unidentified individual was seen slapping another person while grasping him by the collar, while a police officer intervened to diffuse the situation. After some time, the man was let off and went on his way.

A contingent of police reached the spot and resorted to mild lathi charge. They then dispersed the mob after bringing the situation under control.

The voting for 119-member Telangana Legislative Assembly began at 7 am at 35,655 polling stations across the state amid heavy security. 

Over 77,000 security personnel have been deployed across the state to ensure law and order situation during the polls. State police and Home Guards drawn from the state and neighbouring states have been deployed on poll duty, besides 375 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), reported PTI. 

While Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao's Bharat Rashtra Samithi is vying a consecutive third term in the youngest state of India, Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party have posed a significant challenge in fulfilling this ambition of KCR.

A total of 3.26 crore registered voters will seal the fate of 2,990 candidates in the fray including Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, Telangana minister K T Rama Rao, state Congress president A Revanth Reddy, and BJP Lok Sabha members Bandi Sanjay Kumar and D Arvind.

According to Chief Electoral officer Vikas Raj, more than 2.5 lakh polling officials have been eganged in election duties for assembly elections. 

In 2018, BRS (then Telangana Rashtra Samithi) won 88 of the 119 seats and had 47.4 per cent of the vote share. The Congress came a distant second with just 19 seats.

The counting of votes, along with that in four other states will be taken up on December 3.
