Telangana: 16 Injured In Clash Over Widening Of Road Near Janwada Church

During the altercation, the doors of a place of worship were damaged, and a total of 16 individuals from both sides sustained injuries, as confirmed by a police official.

Authorities reassured that the situation now returned to peace and was under control.

Sixteen people were injured after a clash erupted between members of two different communities over the widening of a road near Janwada Church at a village on the outskirts of Hyderabad on Wednesday.

According to the police, the members of the two communities clashed over the widening of the road by the government authorities near a church from Mirjaguda village to Janwada since the Christians objected to it while another group favoured it, as per the report on PTI.  

They said that the Christian community members opposed it by stating that the road was built up to the wall of the place of worship. 

Soon, disagreements escalated into a confrontation between opposing factions resulting in clashes involving stone-throwing on Tuesday night, according to police reports.

During the altercation, the doors of a place of worship were damaged, and a total of 16 individuals from both sides sustained injuries, as confirmed by a police official.

Based on the information, the police intervened swiftly and dispersed the groups. The injured persons were taken to the hospital and were later discharged.

RS Praveen Kumar, the president of the BSP state unit, visited Janwada on Wednesday, where he asserted that members of the BJP and the BRS were implicated in the attack. The BSP leader also highlighted that in response to ongoing protests in Janwada, the police arrested 11 suspects on Wednesday.

Authorities reassured that the situation is now peaceful and under control.

Following complaints and counter-complaints, cases have been registered under relevant sections of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, as well as charges related to rioting, unlawful assembly, and other relevant IPC sections at Mokila police station.

The police took several individuals from both sides into police custody and further investigations are on.
