A pack of stray dogs fatally attacked a one-year-old boy, according to the police on Thursday. The tragic incident took place on late Wednesday night when the child's father and other family members were asleep in their hut at Shamshabad in Hyderabad.

The boy was identified as Nagaraju was the son of Surya Kumar. A police official told PTI that the circumstances surrounding how the toddler exited the hut remained unclear.

A passerby observed approximately six dogs near the deceased baby on the road and informed the police. Upon arrival, the cops discovered the boy with injuries on his body. The father of the boy filed a complaint with the police attributing his son's death to injuries inflicted by dog bites. A case has been registered and investigations are underway.

In March last year, a 5-year-old boy lost his life in a stray dog attack while playing on the streets in Telangana's Khammam district. The young victim, Banoth Bharath of Putani Thanda in Raghunadhapalem mandal faced the attack while playing outdoors. Despite immediate efforts to get him treatment, Bharath succumbed to his injuries on the way to a private hospital due to severe bleeding.

It marked the second such incident in under a month. This incident followed another grim occurrence a month before where a 4-year-old boy died after being mauled by street dogs in a housing society in Hyderabad.

Last year on January 11, a Swiggy delivery executive Mohammad Rizwan lost his life in Hyderabad due to the menace. He fell from the third floor of a building in Banjara Hills while being pursued by a customer's dog.

The problem of stray dogs is not just confined to Hyderabad but it is an issue prevailing in cities across the country.
