Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday greeted the people of Telangana on the occasion of the Bathukamma festival. While PM Modi emphasised the importance of Nari Shakti, Home Minister Amit Shah explained the significance of the festival.


The Prime Minister greeted the "Nari Shakti" of Telangana. Taking to Twitter, PM Modi said, "Greetings to everyone, particularly the Nari Shakti of Telangana on the auspicious occasion of Bathukamma. May this festival deepen our connect with nature and deepen interest in flowers."

Meanwhile, the home minister wrote on his Twitter in Telugu to greet the people of Telangana. "The Bathukamma festival is a celebration of the inherent connection that humans share with motherland and water. Heartiest greetings to our Telangana sisters on the occasion of this festival," he tweeted.






Bathukamma is a colourful, cultural and floral festival celebrated by the Telangana women for nine days after the celebration starts on Mahalaya Amavasya. The festival carries immense significance in the state. Bathukamma meaning 'Mother goddess come alive', is a festival celebrated by the end of the monsoon and gives hope for the rest of the years till the next monsoon.


The first day is a public holiday in Telangana and the festival ends on Durgastami, two days before Dussehra.
