Hyderabad: The University of Hyderabad (UoH) ranked first among Indian Universities and 16th among all institutions in the academic sector in the Nature Index 2022 ranking released on Monday.


University Vice-Chancellor Professor BJ Rao said the position was secured with 72 research papers and a share of 19.46 under the academic sector. These ranks are assigned based on the information taken from April 1, 2021, to march 31, 2022. The Nature Index rank survey was conducted on the basis of research articles published in chemistry, life sciences, earth & environment sciences, and physical sciences.


Many educational institutions from Telugu states have also been ranked in the National Index. Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad 23rd rank, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Tirupati 26th rank, Amity University 54th rank, National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) Hyderabad 76th rank, International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Hyderabad 82nd rank, Andhra University 92nd rank, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Kakinada 108th rank and Indian Institute Of Technology Tirupati (IIT) Tirupati got 122nd rank.

University of Hyderabad (UoH) is one of the major higher education institutions in India. It was established as a central university by an act of parliament in the year 1974.


Earlier, President Pranab Mukherjee instituted Visitors Awards to encourage central universities to achieve excellence in higher education. These visitors' awards are given to best universities as well as innovations. The best university will be awarded a certificate of appreciation and a cash prize of one lakh rupees for research.


A Theater Outreach Unit was set up in HCU under the leadership of Ratan Tata under the Department of Theater Arts. Also, the Indira Gandhi Memorial Library was opened here on October 21, 1988. Both of these are very useful for the students studying there.
