National Herald case: Senior Congress Leader Geetha Reddy Appears Before ED

Former minister and senior Congress leader J Geetha Reddy appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Delhi on Thursday in connection with prevention of money laundering case pertaining to the National Herald matter. 

Former ministers Anjan Kumar Yadav, Geetha Reddy, Mohammed Ali Shabbir, and P Sudarshan Reddy, as well as Congress leader Gali Anil Kumar, received notices from the ED seeking clarification on payments made to the Young Indian Private Limited.

According to the ABP Desam report, Senior Congress leader Anjan Kumar Yadav was supposed to appear before the ED on October 4 (Tuesday). However, it seems that he did not attend due to health problems.

Earlier on Monday (October 3), Shabbir Ali appeared before the ED, and officials questioned him for six hours over donations made to Young Indian. The ED has already questioned  Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi over money laundering case related to the National Herald newspaper.

ED has also summoned Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar for questioning in the National Herald case. He has been asked to depose before the federal investigative agency on October 7 in Delhi.

The 60-year-old former cabinet minister was last questioned by the federal agency on September 19 in the national capital in another money laundering case linked to alleged possession of disproportionate assets.

The latest summons comes at a time when the 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' of the Congress party, led by its leader Rahul Gandhi, entered Karnataka on Friday, September 30, and will be in the state for 21 days.

Earlier, the members of Congress organised demonstrations in several states, alleging misuse of central probe agencies. Congress has slammed ED's action against its top leadership and called it a "political vendetta." In response, the BJP asked that the Congressmen show their innocence.
