Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY), an institution operating under the Ministry of Ayush, is gearing up to host a noteworthy event called 'Yoga Mahotsav' at Parade Ground in Hyderabad on May 27, commencing at 6 am. The event is part of MDNIY's ongoing initiative, in collaboration with various stakeholders, to promote yoga across India through a 100-day countdown program.

The program was inaugurated on March 13, 2023, and has featured events held at different intervals in New Delhi, Dibrugarh, and Jaipur, leading up to the highly anticipated International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2023.

On Sunday, G. Kishan Reddy, the Union Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Development of the Northeast Region, emphasized the series of events organized in the run-up to the International Day of Yoga on June 21. The objective is to encourage citizens to embrace yoga in their personal lives while showcasing the country's rich yoga heritage to the global community.

Reddy highlighted the significance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiative, which resulted in the United Nations General Assembly designating June 21 as the International Day of Yoga in 2014.

The 'Yoga Mahotsav' event is expected to witness the participation of several notable figures, including Central Ministers Anurag Singh Thakur and Sarbananda Sonowal. Invitations have also been extended to Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, and Telangana Finance and Health Minister T Harish Rao, to grace the occasion.

With an estimated attendance of over 20,000 yoga enthusiasts, the event aims to attract celebrities, sports personalities, and senior officials from both state and central governments.

This year's International Day of Yoga (IDY) aligns with India's G20 presidency theme of "One World, One Health" and embraces the concept of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" (the world is one family). The IDY's primary focus is to make yoga accessible in every village across India, actively involving Gram Panchayats (village councils) and Gram Sabhas (village assemblies).
