Member of Legislative Council (MLC), Nizamabad, Kalvakuntla Kavita wrote a postcard to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the call of his brother and Minister Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao, populary known as KTR on Sunday.

She wrote a postcard to Prime Minister Modi to cancel GST on handloom products as per Minister KTR's call.

Taking to Twitter Kavita wrote, "Our handloom industry is a living testimony of our rich heritage and culture, celebrating our diversity. Instead of promoting them, levying the GST is against the growth of nation. I join the Nobel initiative of KTR Anna to support our handloom industry"

TRS MLC said that, "handloom is not a business but it is a cultural heritage of our country and it is not appropriate to exploit the poor and weaker sections of the rural areas in the name of GST."

The postcard stated that the handloom industry depends on the skill, creativity and hard work of the handloom artist and there is no business perspective in the handloom artist.

"He reminded that since the independence of the country till now no government has imposed any tax on handloom raw materials and handloom cloths. But, now the central government under the leadership of Modi has imposed 5% GST on raw materials used for handlooms and handloom cloths and wants to increase it to 12%," MLC said in the postcard.

Therefore, for the sake of the lives of the country's crores of poor handloom workers, they urged the Prime Minister to immediately repeal the GST on handloom raw materials and handloom garments. They demanded that the GST on handloom-related goods be completely removed.

The GST rate on handloom products should be 0%, not 5% or 12%.

On the other hand, Kavitha urged the public to support Minister KTR's call and write a postcard to the Prime Minister demanding the removal of GST on handlooms.
