One person has died in Hyderabad after asbestos sheets fell on him amid heavy rains and thunderstroms in Telangana. The rainfall has also caused widespread waterlogging and flooding in various parts of the city.


Roads and low-lying areas remained inundated on Tuesday, leading to disruptions in vehicular traffic and crippling normal life.


The situation was grim in areas like Saidabad, Singareni Officers' Colony, Kodandaram Nagar, Saroornagar, Gajularamaram, and Malkampet where water entered residential areas. To ensure the safety of people, authorities shifted residents from low-lying, inundated areas to safer places.


The information technology corridors in Madhapur, Gachibowli, Raidurgam, and surrounding areas witnessed significant traffic jams due to water stagnation on roads, leading to delays and inconvenience for people returning from offices and workplaces.


A man lost his life on Monday night in the Abids area after asbestos sheets fell on him. The incident occurred when he had taken shelter under a wall, and the sheets fell on him from the fourth floor of an adjacent building. The deceased was identified as Fareed, a daily wager.


The Disaster Response Force (DRF) teams of GHMC swung into action to clear the fallen trees and water stagnation points. After Monday night's heavy rains, the water level in Hussain Sagar Lake, in the heart of the city, has once again reached near Full Tank Level (FTL).


The water level in the lake rose to 513.46 metres on Tuesday morning, against FTL 514.75 metres.


With the possibility of more rain over the next three days, authorities have issued alerts to residents living in areas along the river's discharge channels to move to safer places.


Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the Hyderabad Meteorological Department issued a red alert warning of extremely heavy rainfall in several districts of Telangana, which will persist until Thursday. The Hyderabad MET Centre has issued a red alert for the next three days, from Wednesday to Friday, covering several districts, including Mahabubabad, Warangal, Karimnagar, Peddapally, Hanumakonda, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Vikarabad, and Kamareddy districts.
