The police opened fire in the air to apprehend a gang of robbers near Outer Ring Road on the outskirts of Hyderabad on Friday. The incident occurred at Pedda Amberpet in Rangareddy district when the robbers attempted to attack the police personnel.

The Central Crime Station (CCS) Nalgonda personnel, who were involved in the operation, managed to arrest members of the notorious Parth gang, which had been targeting parked vehicles on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada National Highway. Following a series of thefts, the police had intensified patrolling along the highway, according to a report on IANS.

Nalgonda Superintendent of Police Sharan Chandra Pawar had formed special teams to monitor the area closely. Upon spotting a group of suspected robbers, the police attempted to apprehend them. However, the gang fled and entered the jurisdiction of the Rachakonda police commissionerate. Police officials from Nalgonda alerted their counterparts in Rachakonda, and a joint chase ensued.

The gang, armed with knives, attempted to attack the police personnel from both Rachakonda and Nalgonda with stones, prompting the officers to open fire in the air, as per the report. This action led to the capture of two offenders, while some other gang members managed to escape.

Over the past month, a series of robberies have been reported around the highway, with police suspecting the same gang to be involved in at least four incidents. One such incident occurred on June 10, when a family sleeping in their parked car on an isolated service road in Chityal was robbed by masked men. The gang had beaten the family of four and looted four tolas of gold, according to the report.

The police continue to investigate and search for the remaining members of the Parth gang.
