Smuggled gold valued at over Rs 1.81 crore was seized from a passenger who arrived from Dubai on Wednesday at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Hyderabad. According to an IANS report, based on a tip-off, the Customs Air Intelligence Unit of Hyderabad, RGIA, intercepted a male passenger who arrived from Dubai by Emirates flight EK-524 at 3 am.
During the search, customs officials found an emergency light. On thorough checking of the emergency light, gold weighing 2,915 grams was found concealed in the battery portion of the device. The gold recovered is valued at Rs. 1,81,60,450. The customs officials arrested the passenger under the Indian Customs Act, 1962, IANS said.
Further investigation is in progress.

On Tuesday, gold worth over Rs 1.13 crore was seized from three passengers who had arrived from Riyadh. On searching the passengers, gold in paste form was found to be concealed in their shoes. Gold weighing 1,818.98 grams valued at Rs 1,13,13,558 was seized.
On May 18, customs officials seized gold worth over Rs 1.10 crore from a passenger who had arrived from Dubai. Based on the suspicious movement of a male passenger from Kerala who arrived from Dubai to Hyderabad by Emirates flight EK-526, the Customs Air Intelligence unit intercepted him.
On searching the passenger, gold in paste form hidden in a separate sheet wrapped and glued around the waist area of the trousers was identified. Gold weighing a net 1,761 grams and valued at Rs 1,10,06,250 was seized. The passenger was arrested under the Customs Act of1962.
