Hours after the Hyderabad police registered a case against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA M Raghunandan Rao for allegedly releasing some photos and a video of the victim girl in the gangrape case, the latter said that he is a law abiding citizen and will face this case legally. While speaking to news agency ANI, Rao also slammed the Congress and said that the case registered against him was filed by the grand old party.

Based on a complaint, accusing Rao of revealing the identity of the minor girl by sharing photos and a video clip, the BJP leader was booked under section 228-A of the Indian Penal Court (IPC), Hyderabad Police said earlier in the day.

"I am a law abiding citizen. I will face this case legally. The case registered against me was filed by Congress. The party stands with me," Rao told the news agency.

Rao stroked a controversy after he held a press conference on June 4 and alleged that the youngster seen in the purported video was the son of an AIMIM MLA. During the presser, Rao also said that he has more evidence to prove the connection of the MLA's son.

After the Opposition accused Rao of revealing the identity of a rape victim, the BJP MLA stressed that girl's face was not visible and the identity of the victim cannot be made out from the clip.

A minor girl, who visited a pub in Hyderabad's Jubilee Hills area, was allegedly gangraped on May 28 for a daytime party by five people, including three juveniles. According to Police investigation, the girl was sexually assaulted in a Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV) after the suspects had offered to drop her home in the vehicle.

So far the Police have arrested four people in connection with the case and are on the lookout for another suspect who is still at large.
