22-Year-Old Jaipur Resident Dupes People With Fake Congress Donation Website, Arrested

Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police detain 22-year-old Surendra Choudary from Jaipur for creating fake Congress donation website, DonateINC.co.

The Cyber Crime Police Station in Hyderabad, Telangana, has detained a 22-year-old individual, Surendra Choudary, a resident of Jaipur, Rajasthan. Choudary is alleged to have developed a fraudulent website, DonateINC.co, posing as the Indian National Congress (INC) to deceitfully collect donations.

The imitated website closely resembles the genuine INC website, DonateINC.net, leading to numerous people being deceived into making donations.

Following a complaint filed by the Congress party, a case was registered under Sections 66(C), 66(D) of the IT Act, and Section 420 of the IPC.

Upon detecting and confirming the details of the accused, a police team proceeded to Rajasthan, apprehended Choudary, obtained a transit warrant, and subsequently placed him on Judicial Remand.

Meanwhile, the Cyber Crime Wing of the Puducherry police has successfully recovered approximately ₹1.36 crore that scammers had defrauded from residents over the past one-and-a-half months, according to media reports. 

The recovery follows the registration of nine cases related to online frauds. In the last 22 days, the cyber police received 255 complaints of online cheating in Puducherry. Victims associated with these complaints are estimated to have incurred losses of around ₹5.37 crore, The Hindu reported citing a press release.

Fraudsters exploiting the Aadhar Enabled Payment System have been reportedly looting money, with the police receiving a minimum of five cases daily, the report said. 

The report said that the police had issued a cautionary advisory to the public regarding individuals impersonating police personnel and soliciting details from residents. A recent case has been registered against an individual for impersonating a cyber police official to extract money, as stated in the press release.

Additionally, the Telangana cyber crime police station had issued a warning to the public about the potential threat of malicious links circulating online, claiming to contain 'live photos of Ayodhya,' ahead of the scheduled consecration of the Ram temple.
