Hyderabad: Defying all odds, the Hyderabad-based conjoined twins Veena and Vani secured 712 and 707 marks respectively in the Telangana Intermediate board examinations out of 1,000 marks in the CEC group (Commerce, Economics, Civics).

They wrote the exams without the help of others. The twins have denied special facilities offered by the government and the Intermediate Board to write the exams.

Veena-Vani expressed their happiness for their achievement and stated in the future that they wished to become Chartered Accountants.

Telangana minister for tribal welfare and women & child welfare departments Satyavathi Rathod congratulated the twins for their achievements. She also assured the twins that the government would provide all the necessary facilities for their higher education. The Minister lauded Veena-Vani and said that the duo are an inspiration for many. She also Congratulated the officers who assisted Veena-Vani.

Veena-Vani were born in 2003 to Murali and Nagalakshmi couple as conjoined twins in the Mahabubnagar district of Telangana. Their parents refused to take them as they could not afford their treatment. The twins lived in Niloufer Hospital in Hyderabad until age 12 and were later shifted to State Home.

Doctors have attempted to separate the twins. However, they could not succeed. Over the course of a year, several medical and surgical specialists from Singapore, the United Kingdom, and India have investigated the twins to find a method of separating them.
