Former Chief Justice of India Justice NV Ramana said on Monday that one should never forget one's mother tongue but at the same time learning a link language such as English was important. He urged the Telugus not to forget their language and culture.
Speaking at the Suchirindia Foundation's 30th anniversary celebrations in Hyderabad, Ramana said, "I studied in Telugu medium until my graduation and studied in English later on. We must preserve our traditions and culture at any cost, though we might go to the USA and earn dollars."
"I come from a very humble farmer's background. In my village, only myself and my sister were the first to complete graduation. Later, we moved on to higher studies. Whatever background you come from is not important, but your commitment to your goals is very important," he said.

On this occasion, schoolchildren who excelled in a variety of academic categories, such as national rankers and state rankers, district rankers, and zonal rankers, were given the Sir CV Raman Young Genius Awards.
On Sunday, speaking at the 'First India Mediation Day' organised by the International Arbitration and Mediation Centre (IAMC) in Hyderabad, Justice Ramana emphasised that the ability to resolve disputes at a faster pace would help the growth of the country.
The former Chief Justice noted that the world today has realised arbitration and mediation as one of the most powerful tools to resolve disputes. "The power of mediation is understated, it has deep roots in ancient India and Indian society," he had said.
NV Ramana said mediators must become emotionally intelligent, be able to communicate, act appropriately, be spontaneous, have the capacity to establish trust, and understand the stressed relationships.
