Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) will support the All India Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) in the upcoming biennial MLC polls to Hyderabad local body constituency, said the Telangana CM's office on Tuesday.
In a tweet, Telangana CMO said, "Considering AIMIM's request to allot MLC seat and support in Hyderabad local body polls, BRS chief and CM KCR decided to support AIMIM. CM decided to allot the seat to AIMIM & extend full support to their candidate in biennial polls to Hyderabad local body constituency.”
In response to the Telangana CMO's tweet, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi thanked CM K Chandrashekar Rao.
"We thank Telangana CM for supporting our candidate for MLC elections," tweeted AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi.
Earlier also in 2017, the ruling BRS had supported AIMIM candidate for the MLC elections under the Hyderabad local authorities constituency and a teachers union candidate for the teachers constituency.
On February 9, the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the schedule for the MLC elections with the last date for nominations to be filed on February 23 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations on February 27. While the polling will be held on March 13, the results will be announced on March 16.
The term of Mahbubnagar-Ranga Reddy-Hyderabad Teachers’ constituency MLC Katepally Janardhan Reddy and Hyderabad Local Authorities’ constituency MLC Syed Aminul Hasan Jafri will end on March 29 and May 1 respectively.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh's ruling YSRCP on Monday announced candidates for 18 seats in the state Legislative Council.
As many as 11 candidates are from the backward classes while there are two from Scheduled Castes and one from Scheduled Tribe. The remaining four are from other castes.
The party has announced nine candidates for "local authorities" constituencies, including two candidates for the governor's quota and seven candidates from the MLA quota.
