Well, too many cooks won't be able to spoil the broth any more, as group orders are here to make life easier. Swiggy and Zomato, two of India’s leading food delivery services, bring the group ordering feature that promises to make ordering food for gatherings much simpler. This tool allows multiple users to contribute to a single order, making it ideal for parties, celebrations, and get-togethers.
Is Group Order Available On Both Zomato & Swiggy?
While Swiggy had already made this feature available to all users, Zomato began rolling it out earlier this month to a select group, with plans to expand access to all users soon.
Swiggy has described the feature as a solution to what it calls the “party pain point,” where coordinating large orders can often be a hassle. Zomato’s CEO, Deepinder Goyal, highlighted the convenience of this new option, noting that it eliminates the need to pass a phone around for everyone to place their orders.
How Can You Place Group Order On Zomato, Swiggy?
The group ordering feature is available on both Android and iOS platforms. Users can start a group order on either Zomato or Swiggy by creating a group and sharing a link or QR code with friends and family. Each participant can then add their preferred items to the order.
All participants need to have an account on the respective platform, and the person who initiates the group order is responsible for finalizing it. Although others can add their selections, only the creator of the order can make final adjustments and complete the checkout process. This is likely a measure to avoid incomplete orders.
While the group ordering experience is similar on both platforms, there are some differences. Zomato has a 30-minute window to finalize group orders and can accommodate up to 30 participants.
Additionally, Zomato indicates who is responsible for paying for the order, a detail that is more subtly handled by Swiggy.
Like standard orders, group orders also allow the use of discount coupons. However, since the entire order is processed as a single transaction, only one coupon can be applied, even if multiple people contribute to the order. This contrasts with individual orders, where each person can apply their own discounts.
