A minor Dalit girl with a disability was allegedly molested in her residence under the limits of Kurar police station in Mumbai. The accused has been arrested, said the police, adding that the incident occurred when the girl was alone at home as her parents had gone to work. 


The accused had allegedly broken into the house and assaulted the girl.


The girl's mother noticed her daughter's unusual behaviour after which she took her into confidence and enquired about it. The girl then narrated the incident to her mother after which the mother filed a complaint with the police.

The cops registered a case under the POCSO Act and arrested the accused.


On Wednesday a similar incident was reported from Mumbai's Nagpada area where an earring seller was arrested for allegedly molesting an eight-year-old girl, said the police. The accused had been identified as Zubair Shah. 


"A case of molestation of an 8-year-old girl was registered in the Nagpada area of Mumbai. An earring seller molested the girl. The accused touched the girl inappropriately. Mumbai's Nagpada Police has arrested Zubair Shah who was selling earrings," Nagpada police said, reported ANI.

The incidents come amid outrage over the sexual assault of two nursery school girls by a male cleaning staffer in a school in Thane's Badlapur town. The accused, Akshay Shinde was arrested on August 17 and has been sent to police custody till August 25. 


The Bombay High Court took suo motu cognisance of the matter and asked the Maharashtra government to counselling the victims. 


A special investigation team has also been formed to probe the case and Maharashtra Chief Minister Ekanth Shinde assured that action will be taken and the matter will be fast-tracked.
