Elon Musk's microblogging platform X (née Twitter) is poised to expand its reach into the digital streaming landscape with the upcoming launch of its X TV app, which is being positioned as a primary rival to YouTube. X CEO Linda Yaccarino announced via a recent post on the platform that the new video streaming service is set to offer "real-time, engaging content" directly on smart TVs, aiming to provide a "high-quality, immersive entertainment experience."
A preview clip included in the announcement showcases the app still under development, featuring potential content such as a recent interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin conducted by Tucker Carlson, and footage from a SpaceX rocket launch. This hints at the diverse array of video offerings that might be available upon the app's release.
X TV App Features: What To Expect
Yaccarino highlighted that the X TV app will enable users to seamlessly cast videos from the X mobile app to their smart TVs, ensuring a continuous viewing experience.
The service is expected to be compatible with most smart TV models and will incorporate features like dedicated video search and AI-curated content feeds. The app will also synchronise with users' mobile activity on X, allowing for uninterrupted viewing sessions across devices.

In a strategic move that could challenge major players in the video streaming sector, such as Google's YouTube, X recently enhanced its capabilities by allowing paid users to upload longer, high-resolution videos directly through the platform.
This marks a significant step up from its previous limitations, where free users can only post videos up to 140 seconds long. In contrast, paid Premium members now have the privilege of uploading 1080p videos up to two hours in length or 720p videos up to three hours long. This development could reshape how users engage with video content on X, positioning it as a formidable competitor in the digital media domain.
