X owner Elon Musk is known for his savageness when it comes to trolling people and it seems like the tech titan is not going to spare anyone. It has been 19 days since the polling and California is yet to officially announce its US Presidential election results. Musk took a jibe at California by drawing a stark comparison to India. California hasn't been able to complete the counting of around 15 million votes in 19 days whereas India counted a whopping 640 million votes in a single day.

Musk said that India counted 640 million votes in just one day, while California is still counting votes. His X post read, "India counted 640 million votes in 1 day. California is still counting votes." Musk also added a facepalm emoji at the end to show his frustration over the delay.

California V. India

With 98 per cent of votes counted in California and an official declaration still awaited, the Associated Press has projected Democratic candidate Kamala Harris as the winner, securing 58.6 per cent of the vote against Republican Donald Trump’s 38.2 per cent. California, the most populous state in the U.S. with nearly 39 million residents, saw over 16 million voters participate in the November 5 election.

The state’s election process is largely mail-based, requiring additional time to validate mail-in ballots compared to in-person voting. Each mail ballot undergoes individual verification and processing, a more detailed procedure than the immediate scanning of ballots at polling stations. California also allows voters until December 1 to “cure” problematic ballots—those with errors such as missing signatures, incorrect signing locations, or improperly sealed envelopes—further extending the timeline for finalizing results.

As for India, the votes are cast with the help of EVM (Electronic Voting Machine). Since it is infused with technology, the counting becomes easy as it is digital rather than being counted manually. This is one of the prime reasons why India was able to count around 42 times of votes than California and that too in a single day.
