In a bid to give users more control over privacy in their chats, Meta-owned WhatsApp is working to roll out a secret code configuration feature for locked chats. The upcoming feature is said to give users greater control over their locked chats by letting them choose a custom password for their protected chat folder. The under-development feature has been spotted by WhatsApp tracking website Wabetainfo. The update has been spotted on WhatsApp for Android beta v2.23.21.9 and it is available via the Google Play Beta program.

"In fact, thanks to the previous update, we discovered that WhatsApp has plans to provide users with a new feature to allow them to choose a custom password for their protected chat folder, bringing to the app another layer of security. "Thanks to this new section, we discovered useful information regarding the secret code. Specifically, entering a secret code will allow users to easily find locked chats even in the search bar of the app. In addition, configuring a secret code will allow users to lock chats even from companion devices. As noted in the creation form, WhatsApp suggests using a word or a simple emoji for quick access," Wabetainfo added on its page.

The Meta-owned messaging platform had introduced Chat Lock functionality to let users lock specific chats via fingerprint, passcode and facelock, earlier this year.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp is also planning to introduce a new interface with new colours and redesigned icons, among other changes. The changes will be introduced on WhatsApp for Android, Wabetainfo recently reported.

The website has posted several screenshots on its page where one can see key improvements to the WhatsApp interface, which will be rolled out via future updates. WhatsApp for Android will see newly designed new icons aimed to make the interface modern.
