WhatsApp services have been restored on both mobile app and desktop platforms after the instant messaging service faced the longest outage this year. The Meta-owned instant messaging platform was not working on the mobile app, desktop, or even the Web. Downdetector showed that over 20,000 users reported on the platform that WhatsApp was down, with the outage seemingly beginning at around 12pm IST. Going by reports on Downdetector, the issue was not only restricted to India but was affecting users globally. This was the first major WhatsApp outage this year.
ABP Live could confirm that at the time of writing, messages and calls were working fine on WhatsApp, on both personal and group messages. It appears that WhatsApp is slowly restoring services one region after another, so it may take some time before your WhatsApp starts functioning properly again, if not already doing so. ANI reported the partial restoration of WhatsApp services is underway in some Indian cities.

As per Downdetector's 'reported problems' map, the WhatsApp outage in India appeared to affect users in cities such as Delhi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Chennai. Apart from India, WhatsApp users were also facing issues in countries like Australia, Brazil, France, Pakistan, the United Kingdom, and the United States as well.

As mentioned earlier, this was the first major WhatsApp outage in 2022. The last major outage it saw was also its longest to date — as seen back in October 2021, when WhatsApp (as well as other Meta apps such as Instagram or Facebook) was down for nearly six hours. Going by Downdetector data, the WhatsApp outage this year lasted nearly two-and-a-half hours.
