New Delhi: Messaging application WhatsApp experienced a global outage, leaving countless users unable to access the service around 11:45 PM on Wednesday. Users trying to log in to the app or access WhatsApp Web, the browser-based version of the platform, were met with an error message indicating that the service was currently unavailable.
The disruption prompted a surge in reports on Downdetector, a website that monitors internet outages, with numerous users encountering difficulties while attempting to use WhatsApp. It noted over 17,000 reports from Indian users flagging problems with the messaging app.
The recent crash of WhatsApp sparked the trending hashtag #WhatsAppDown on social media platform X, as numerous users found themselves unable to use the messaging app even after attempting to reboot it.
As per reports, the WhatsApp outage started at approximately 11:45 PM, coinciding with a similar disruption on Instagram.

Earlier in March, a widespread disruption affected users of Instagram, Facebook, and Threads, with many users experiencing unexpected logouts from their accounts. Numerous users reported being forcibly logged out of their accounts, encountering difficulties in logging back in, and facing challenges with two-factor authentication codes required for login attempts. The disruption impacted both the mobile applications and the desktop versions of the platforms.
“We are currently experiencing an outage impacting service on Cloud API. This issue started at 04-03-2024 11:10 AM PST (11:40 pm IST). Our engineering teams are investigating the issue. We will provide another update within 4 hours or sooner if additional information is available,” Meta said.
