Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his heartfelt condolences and expressed deep sadness over the loss of lives caused by the earthquake that struck Taiwan on Wednesday. In a statement, he extended India's solidarity to the resilient people of Taiwan as they confront the aftermath of the disaster.


In a post on X, Prime Minister Modi wrote, "Deeply saddened by the loss of lives due to earthquakes in Taiwan today. Our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured. We stand in solidarity with the resilient people of Taiwan as they endure the aftermath and recover from it."






As per a PTI report, the earthquake, described as the strongest in a quarter-century, struck during the morning rush hour, claiming the lives of nine individuals, injuring over 800, trapping numerous miners, and prompting some residents to flee from damaged buildings.


The tremors caused injuries to hundreds of people and originated off the shore of rural and mountainous Hualien County. In the island nation, several buildings were tilted severely, with their lower floors collapsing.

In Taipei, the capital city situated slightly more than 150 kilometers away, older buildings experienced falling tiles. Schools took precautionary measures by evacuating students to sports fields and providing them with yellow safety helmets.


Taiwan President Conveys Gratitude To PM Modi Over His Message















Following PM Modi's expression of solidarity with the earthquake-stricken people of Taiwan, President Tsai Ing-wen conveyed profound gratitude to him for his support during this challenging period, emphasising its significant value to the Taiwanese people.


"We are deeply grateful for your kind words and support,@narendramodi, at this challenging time. Your solidarity means a great deal to the people of Taiwan as we all work toward a swift recovery," President Tsai posted on 'X', responding to PM Modi's messages.






Vice President Lai Ching-te of Taiwan also extended thanks to Modi, stating that the support and solidarity from the Indian Prime Minister serve as a source of resilience for the people of Taiwan amid these difficult circumstances.


"Thank you, Prime Minister Modi @narendramodi, for your heartwarming message. Your support & solidarity are a source of strength to the people of Taiwan during these trying times," he wrote on his X.






India Taipei Association Also Extended Condolences


The India Taipei Association also extended condolences to the quake victims, expressing heartfelt sympathy for the affected communities.


"India Taipei Association would like to extend our deepest condolences for the victims and heartfelt sympathies for communities affected by the earthquake which struck Taiwan this morning," it wrote on 'X'.


"We sincerely pray for the speedy recovery of those injured and stand ready with the people of Taiwan during these difficult times #IslandOfResilience," it added.
