New Delhi: The theme of the tableau of the Union Ministry of Education and Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship at the Republic Day Parade this year is 'Vedas to Metaverse: National Education Policy 2020'. The tableau showcases the key aspects of the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020), according to an official statement by MyGov.
The Union Ministry of Education tweeted that the Indian education system is bridging the past with the present and creating a new future embracing technology, from Vedas to metaverse.
In the front portion of Tableau, India's rich tradition and glorious past in the area of education since ancient times have been depicted, starting from the Vedas, followed by the Gurukul education system. After this, universities like Nalanda University were established, where thousands of students came to study from across the globe.
In the rear portion, the first part shows a glowing brain-like ‘Bulb’, which symbolises innovation and creativity aspects, the statement said.
The procession of students of different age groups depicts skill development and joyful learning, emphasising the latest technologies like augmented reality and irvtual reality.
The video played on the LED screens of the digital book represents multidisciplinary education, research and innovation, startups, robotics, and the Metaverse.
On both sides of the tableau, images of educationists and scientists from ancient times to the modern age can also be seen.
The metaverse is a space in which the real world and the virtual world come together. It appears to be turning into a reality — bringing together virtual and augmented reality, the Internet, and real life.
There will be digital representations of people in the metaverse, which will be called avatars. The avatars can perform a wide range of activities from interacting during work, attending concerts to gaming, and even wearing digital clothes.
The metaverse can refer to digital spaces that appear more lifelike due to the use of virtual reality (VR) or augmented reality (AR).
The term is also used to describe gaming worlds, where users have a character and they walk around interacting with other gamers.
Metaverse is used to describe the concept of a future iteration of the internet, made up of shared, 3D virtual spaces.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg had said in December 2021 that India will play an important role in the development of the metaverse, which he called "the next version of the internet".
Quoting Zuckerberg at Meta's 'Fuel for India' programme, media reports said that India’s talent pool, the engineers, developers, and creators of the country's whole vibrant startup ecosystem are playing a huge role in shaping the future.
Some of the metaverse development companies in India include Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Tech Mahindra, Accenture, Infosys, Hyperlink InfoSystem, HCL Technologies, and Zensar Technologies, among others.
The National Education Policy 2020, launched on July 29, 2020, outlines the vision of India’s new education system. It focuses on five pillars: Affordability, Accessibility, Quality, Equity, and Accountability. This is to ensure continual learning.
NEP 2020, which is the first education policy to get approved in India in over 30 years, calls for key reforms in both school and higher education, which prepare the next generation to thrive and compete in the new digital age.
