Riding On iPhone Sales, Apple Sets Record Quarter In India


Riding on the trend of premiumisation and bumper iPhone sales, Apple registered a record double-digit revenue in India in the June quarter. Tim Cook, Apple CEO said the company was pleased with the growth in India, the second-largest smartphone market in the world. Apple recently expanded its retail presence in the country with two stores in Delhi and Mumbai and their performance has "exceeded expectations". India featured prominently in Apple's latest earnings call.

Apple And Samsung Freeze India Laptop Imports


Tech giants Samsung and Apple have stopped laptop imports to India, a day after the government imposed restrictions on the import of laptops, tablets, servers and other Personal Computers (PCs) without a license, in an attempt to give a push to local manufacturing, the media has reported. According to a report by news agency Bloomberg, companies are now engaging with New Delhi on how to most quickly obtain licenses ahead of the heightened interest of buyers, with Diwali and the festive season approaching.

Meta-owned WhatsApp, the world's most popular messaging platform working on email verification to let users increase their account security, says WhatsApp beta tracker WABetaInfo. This feature would come in handy when there are incidents of device theft or if the user loses access to the linked phone number.

Qualcomm Mulling To Lay Off Employees


Chipset-making giant Qualcomm is mulling to lay off more employees amid falling smartphone sales, macroeconomic uncertainties and risks in China, the media has reported. The company which has around 51,000 employees, reported disappointing sales that missed forecasts in quarterly earnings. The San Diego, California-headquartered company's third quarter (Q3) earnings for the year saw a 25 per cent decrease in sales of mobile chipsets, compared to last year, which amounted to $5.26 billion. Qualcomm's fiscal year runs from October to September. The company's net income dropped by over 50 per cent YoY in the previous quarter.
