In a bid to help users protect their accounts from hackers, WhatsApp is working to introduce the ability to verify their accounts with email IDs. Meta-owned WhatsApp, the world's most popular messaging platform working on email verification to let users increase their account security, says WhatsApp beta tracker WABetaInfo. This feature would come in handy when there are incidents of device theft or if the user loses access to the linked phone number.

This would be an optional feature and not the one that asks for the email address when configuring the two-step verification. The feature is currently being tested in beta for Android. A new security feature to protect your account using an email address is under development and it will be released in a future update of the app. As always, we plan to publish an additional article when we have further details about this feature to share with you, WABetaInfo wrote on its web page.

Once rolled out, the Meta-owned platform would ask for the user’s email address to protect and verify their account. The particular circumstances under which the email address will be helpful to improve the security of the WhatsApp accounts are unknown at this time as the feature is currently under development.
