New Delhi: Snapchat is rolling out an update that would let people change their usernames on the platform. Snapchat users will finally be able to change their usernames at a later point this month. According to the Snap-owned company, it is aware that people grow and change and may want to change their handles accordingly too. The ability to change usernames on Snapchat was first discovered by reverse app engineer Alessandro Paluzzi in October 2021.

On Snapchat, users would be able to change the username by tapping the Bitmoji icon in the top right corner, then tap the gear icon, and choose "Username" and select "Change username". However, it should be noted that they can change only username and memories, contacts, and other account details will remain the same. According to a report published in The Verge, the feature will be available for both Android and iOS users globally starting February 23.

Earlier this month, the popular social media app started planning to show ads on stories, which will help creators earn money. It is being tested with a small group of creators in the US and will allow people to earn money from mid-roll ads that appear in the middle of Snapchat Stories. While only a limited number of people can get in on the act now, Snapchat will roll the feature out to everyone in the coming months.

Snapchat has added various ways for creators to monetize their presence on the app. Snapchat users already see ads in between friends' Stories and on the Discover section. Snapchat recently added some new features along with bitmoji reactions to facilitate fun interaction.
