Telecom operator Reliance Jio on Thursday announced that it will increase tariffs by 12.5 per cent to 25 per cent and introduce new plans. The updated tariff will be implemented starting July 3. Jio also mentioned that current users will not be affected by the price hike. The telecom operator has also confirmed that JioBharat and JioPhone users will continue with their current tariff rates.

This marks Reliance Jio's first increase in mobile service prices in approximately two and a half years.

New Reliance Jio Plans

Jio's plans with longer validity have seen the steepest price hike. The annual package, previously priced at Rs 2,999, will now cost Rs 3,599, after the upward revision. This represents a Rs 600 increase for Jio users. In contrast, the smallest price hike is Rs 34, affecting the cheapest plan at Rs 155 with a 28-day validity.

Jio's postpaid plans have also seen a price increase. The Rs 299 plan, which previously offered 30GB of data, is now priced at Rs 349 per billing cycle. Similarly, the Rs 399 postpaid plan, which included 75GB of data, will now cost Rs 449.

“The introduction of new plans is a step towards industry innovation and driving sustainable growth through investments in 5G and AI technology. High-quality, affordable internet is essential for Digital India, and Jio is proud to contribute to this vision. We will continue to prioritize our country and customers by investing in India," Akash M Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, was quoted as saying in a statement.

Jio also rolled out two new apps that aim to enhance user experience.

JioSafe: A quantum-secure communication application for calls, messaging, file transfers, and more, available for Rs 199 per month.

JioTranslate: An AI-powered multilingual communication app that translates voice calls, voice messages, texts, and images, priced at Rs 99 per month.

"Jio users will get both these applications (worth Rs 298/month) absolutely free for a year," said the telecom major in the statement.
