A collaborative approach between the artificial intelligence (AI) industry and academia is essential for catalyzing technological advancement and development while creating new job opportunities and, hence, a skilled workforce. 


AI is reshaping the global technological landscape, and this article focuses primarily on the roles of various players in promoting the integration of AI in education and training. While academia is concerned with creating new knowledge through research and educating students, industry frequently focuses on addressing solutions with immediate commercial value. 


The combination has the potential to accelerate the development of new scientific advances.


Workplace Skill Inadequacies


The term "skills gap" refers to a fundamental discrepancy between the skills that employers expect from their employees and the skills that job seekers have, limiting the ability of both employers and employees to acquire what they want. 


There is no single cause of a skills gap; however, it can be diminished with adequate training to acquaint new hires with the organization's workings. Such partnerships between academics and the AI sector can be created to increase the accessibility and use of AI in training and education, advance research, and create a workforce with expertise.


However, this collaboration between industry and academics is restricted to a small number of elite institutions and laboratories and is largely intermittent.

Making sure that there are no longer disparities in general and technology-specific skill sets that prevent underserved communities from entering the AI profession is crucial. 


So, in order to facilitate such collaborations, it is imperative to increase R&D investment.


Lastly, in order to enable the development of a bidirectional conduit for information transfer between academia and industry, it is the responsibility of the industry to contribute by cultivating relationships with knowledge creators.
