On the last day of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's first state visit to the US, President Joe Biden gifted him a special t-shirt with his quote, "The Future is AI America & India", written on it. Modi made the remark while addressing the US Congress on Thursday. Thanking the US leadership for the grand welcome given to him, the PM said Friday India and America are working with a renewed trust in areas of new and emerging technologies.
US Vice President Kamala Harris hosted a luncheon at the White House in honour of the Indian PM on Friday. Speaking at the event, Modi said India and the US have expanded the scope of their cooperation in the defence and strategic areas. "We are working with renewed trust in areas of new and emerging technologies. We are resolving long pending and difficult issues in trade," he said.
The trip saw a green signal to two multibillion-dollar defence deals by General Electric and General Atomic, which Modi and Biden called "next generation" defence partnership between the US and India. In a joint statement, Biden and Modi also said they vowed to work closely on “unprecedented co-production and technology transfer” plans in the defence sector.
Earlier, addressing a joint session of the US Congress Thursday, Modi said: "A lot has changed since I came here seven summers ago. But a lot has remained the same - like our commitment to deepen the friendship between India and the United States." He added: "In the past few years, there have been many advances in AI - Artificial Intelligence. At the same time, there have been even more momentous developments in another Al- America and India."
Modi is the first Indian PM to address the US Congress twice.
As President Biden gave PM Modi the t-shirt Friday, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Apple CEO Tim Cook could be seen at the event, among many others including Mahindra Group chairman Anand Mahindra and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
