Chipset maker MediaTek on Wednesday announced it would be showcasing its new 5G demos, Dimensity, Filogic, Genio, Kompanio, and Pentonic portfolios at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023 in Barcelona, Spain. The Hsinchu, Taiwan-headquartered chipset maker will also demonstrate its satellite communications platform and devices from some of the world’s biggest brands.

The company added it would also demonstrate 5G mmWave beam technology to improve connection performance and reliability, in partnership with Ericsson. MediaTek would be showcasing its 5G UltraSave for mmWave with Keysight 5G Network Emulation Solutions and explain how its technology optimises hardware and software design to extend battery life during high-speed data transmission for a variety of 5G-enabled devices.

Solutions for Satellite Connectivity, 5G, mmWave and more

MediaTek’s 3GPP standards-based 5G Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) solution brings two-way satellite communications to smartphones and other devices. At the MediaTek booth at MWC, attendees can check out some of the brand-new devices powered by MediaTek’s NTN solutions. MediaTek will also demonstrate the company’s next-generation New Radio NTN (NR-NTN) technology for the first time.

It should be noted that chipset-making giant Qualcomm entered into an agreement with Iridium last month, in a bid to bring satellite-based connectivity to next-generation premium Android smartphones.

At MWC, MediaTek would also highlight how its Dimensity 9200 chipset takes flagship smartphones "to the next level." The demos would include MediaTek’s hardware tracing support that delivers great visuals for gaming, Intelligent Display Sync 3.0 which adjusts the refresh rate in real-time and Intelligent Image Semantic Segmentation which optimises picture quality with multi-person segmentation and multi-layer colour management.

Some of the latest flagship smartphones that come with the Dimensity 9200 are the Vivo X90 and X90 Pro. However, smartphone OEMs Samsung and OnePlus have chosen rival Qualcomm and launched their latest flagship Galaxy S23 series and OnePlus 11 line with the Snapdrgaon 8 Gen 2 SoC.
