New Delhi: In October last year, Facebook changed its name to Meta in its rebranding effort to reflect its focus on building the metaverse. The metaverse is seen as the next version of the internet, where people can experience the virtual world, and can work, play, and interact with each other.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on Facebook Wednesday that the company just updated its values. He shared six of the company's updated values in a note to Meta employees.
The values include 'Move Fast', 'Focus on Long-Term Impact', 'Build Awesome Things', 'Live in the Future', 'Be Direct and Respect Your Colleagues', and 'Meta, Metamates, Me'. The last value is about being good stewards of the company and its mission.
"We wrote our company's values back in 2007. They have been remarkably durable, but a lot has changed during this time. We are now a distributed company. We have a global community and wide reaching impact. And we're now a metaverse company, building the future of social connection," Zuckerberg wrote in the note.
The Six Updated Values
‘Move Fast helps Meta’ build and learn faster than anyone else, according to Zuckerberg's post. This means acting with urgency and not waiting until next week to do something one can do today.
'Focus on Long-Term Impact' emphasises long-term thinking and encourages the company to extend the timeline for the impact it has, rather than optimising for near-term wins, according to the note.
'Build Awesome Things' pushes Meta to ship things that are not just good, but are also awe-inspiring. "We've already built products that are useful to billions of people, but in our next chapter, we'll focus more on inspiring people as well. This quality bar should apply to everything we do," Zuckerberg wrote.
The value 'Live in the Future' guides Meta to build the future of distributed work that the company wants, where opportunity is not limited by geography. This means operating as a distributed-first company and being the early adopters of the future products it is building to help people feel present together no matter where they are, according to Zuckerberg's post.
'Be Direct and Respect Your Colleagues' is about creating a culture where the company is straightforward and willing to have hard conversations with each other, according to the note. "At the same time, we are also respectful and when we share feedback, we recognize that many of the world's leading experts work here," Zuckerberg noted.
'Meta, Metamates, Me' is about being good stewards of the company and its mission. It is about the sense of responsibility the company employees have for their collective success and to each other as teammates. It is about taking care of the company and of each other.
Recent Public Relations Crises Being Faced By Meta
The social media giant has been facing public relations crises for quite some time. The New York Times reported in February that some Facebook users were questioning if the company should be creating new products without fixing all the problems it already has on its social media platform.
This week, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit against Meta, American news website CNET reported. He accused the company of violating the state's privacy laws by capturing biometric data on tens of millions of Texans without properly obtaining consent.
Facebook also announced this week that it would start referring to its News Feed as Feed.
