Instagram Threads is finally getting a web version. Meta's answer to X, formerly Twitter, will start the rollout of the ability to use the platform via the web. This has been the most requested feature and initially, users on the web would be able to post, view feeds and interact with posts but the service won't be at par with the Threads app for iOS and Android, says a report by TechCrunch. This announcement comes at a time when Threads is struggling to retain its users. 

The Threads team is working to add more features to bring the web app on par with mobile over the weeks ahead. Despite its shortcomings, being able to use Threads from the web is a potential game-changer for those still trying to make the shift from Elon Musk-owned X which is undergoing a number of changes since he acquired the platform last year. From day one, web support has been among users’ top requests, outside of a reverse chronological Following feed, which Threads delivered in July, the report added.

Notably, Instagram head Adam Mosseri posted about a week ago that Threads is working on a web version. "We’re working on it! We’ve been using an early version internally for a week or two. Still needs some work before we can open it up to everyone though…," Mosseri posted on Threads.

It should be noted that Threads is struggling to retain its users after an initial high and launch. A month after its launch and an initial high, Instagram Threads continues to lose popularity and users.

The "Twitter rival" has lost more than 75 per cent of its daily active users (DAUs) on Android, a report said last week. According to analytics firm Similarweb, the Instagram Threads app for Android peaked at 49.3 million daily active users on July 7, globally. Now, the app has lost 79 per cent of its DAUs. As on August 7, the app's DAUs were down to 10.3 million.
