Instagram Threads, the new Twitter rival has 100 million registered users within just five days of launch amid declining popularity of Elon Musk-owned Twitter. According to tracker Quiver Quantitative, there are more than 100 million users on Threads now. It should be noted that Twitter started showing some content to visitors even without logging in to an account, which was not available for them before the launch of Instagram Threads which is being seen as a potential threat to Twitter. Meta CEO and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg had said last week that Threads attracted over two million users in a few hours.

Instagram Threads is closely linked to a user's Instagram account and is positioned as an alternative to micro-blogging site Twitter, which was acquired by tech billionaire and SpaceX owner Musk last year. Instagram Threads has been introduced globally, except in the EU, and has witnessed a meteoric rise within days of launch.

Instagram Threads has outpaced OpenAI’s ChatGPT AI chatbot which went viral and became the fastest-growing product by garnering 10 million daily users in 40 days and 100 million monthly users in almost two months. However, Instagram Threads has now become the fastest-growing platform, having crossed the milestone of 100 million monthly active users (MAUs).

Meanwhile, Musk and Zuckerberg are engaged in a war of words these days and Musk has taken it to another level. His latest tweet on Zuckerberg is embedded below.

To recall, Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino was apparently "alarmed" last week at the huge momentum Instagram Threads got on the day of launch. On the back of the hype, Threads reached 30 million users within no time. Yaccarino on Thursday asked the Twitter community to "stay together" and that a platform like Twitter is "often imitated." She announced that everyone's voice matters on Twitter.
