Google has begun testing its new generative artificial intelligence (AI) features in Gmail and Docs following the announcement of their upcoming release in Workspace apps. The trial is being offered to consumers, enterprise, and education users over 18 years old in the US, with a limited number of people invited to sign up and opt-in to participate in the “small group” test programme.


Participants can leave the programme at any time and will be able to provide feedback to Google through Gmail and Docs. These AI features enable users to generate text and have Google elaborate on or shorten their writing, including down to bullet points.


In Docs, the AI can make text more detailed or even rewrite it, assisting users in drafting blog posts or song lyrics.

Additionally, Google Cloud has revealed that its new Generative AI App Builder will enable people to build AI-powered search and conversational experiences, similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
