Google has officially rolled out a dedicated Gemini app for Android users in India. This app leverages the capabilities of Gemini, Google’s suite of Large Language Models (LLMs), which was initially launched in the US in February. Users in India can access the Gemini app in English and nine Indian languages. Moreover, the gemini app lets you upload and summarise large files using its AI chatbot.

Apart from English, Gemini app users in India will be able to talk in regional languages such as Hindi, Bengali, Malayalam, Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.

"We're excited to announce the Gemini app is now available in India, supporting English and nine Indian languages: Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. Now, whether you need to plan a game night, create a recipe with specific ingredients, or craft a social media caption, Gemini is available on the go. The app allows you to type, talk, or even add an image to get the assistance you need," Amar Subramanya, Vice President, Engineering, Gemini Experiences, said in a statement.

"Take a picture of a flat tire for instructions on how to change it, or get help writing that perfect thank you note – the possibilities are endless. This marks a significant step forward in our journey to build a truly conversational, multimodal, and helpful AI assistant."

How To Use Gemini On Android

  • To use Gemini on Android, you can either download the Gemini app or enable it via Google Assistant. Once set up, you can activate Gemini by swiping from the corner, pressing the power button on certain phone models, or by saying "Hey Google."

  • This provides a new overlay experience with convenient access to Gemini and contextual assistance directly on your screen.

  • Many of the popular voice features from Google Assistant, such as setting timers, making calls and setting reminders, are available via the Gemini app, with plans to support even more features in the future.

"On iOS, Gemini access is rolling out directly from the Google app over the next few weeks. Just tap the Gemini toggle and start chatting to supercharge your creativity and productivity," Subramanya added.

While Gemini is available in over 165 regions globally, it currently does not include European Union (EU) countries. The tech giant has reassured users of its dedication to expanding Gemini's availability to additional languages and regions in the future.
