The much awaited Android 15 has been released by Google, and to celebrate this unveiling, Google also revealed a 3D Android mascot donning a red t-shirt and holding a vanilla ice cream cone, sprinkled with colourful confetti. Google has been known to push out the Android 15 update to Pixel smartphones on the day of unveiling the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) build, but, this year, things might not be the same. This year, Android update will be arriving on the Google Pixel 9 series and other eligible models in the next few weeks.

VP, product management, Android Developer at Google, Matthew McCullough, wrote, “Today we’re releasing Android 15 and making the source code available at the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). Android 15 will be available on supported Pixel devices in the coming weeks, as well as on select devices from Samsung, Honor, iQOO, Lenovo, Motorola, Nothing, OnePlus, Oppo, Realme, Sharp, Sony, Tecno, Vivo, and Xiaomi in the coming months.”
Android 15 Rollout: Here's What We Know
Android 15, the newest release of the world’s leading smartphone operating system, introduces a range of enhancements and features. Among these updates are a revamped volume control panel, partial screen sharing, full-screen app support, and the novel capability to use your Android device’s selfie camera as a webcam for Windows laptops.
Additionally, Android 15 enhances the Circle to Search feature, available on select Pixel and Galaxy devices, now enabling song identification similar to Apple’s Shazam. Google is also expanding its earthquake alert system to include more regions, including the US, and has upgraded its screen reader with Gemini technology to provide more detailed audio descriptions of images.
Major brands such as Samsung, Nothing, and OnePlus are already working on their custom versions of Android 15, including OneUI 7, NothingOS 3, and OxygenOS 15, respectively. These custom builds are anticipated to be available for their flagship models in the coming months, with variations in features depending on the manufacturer’s custom skin.
