Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Z Flip 6 Launch: Samsung on Wednesday, July 10, officially launched its newest additions to the foldable smartphone market: the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6. At the Galaxy Unpacked 2024 event, Samsung unveiled its newest foldable devices, with a focus on artificial intelligence (AI) and extended software support. At the heart of X Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 is a custom-designed Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform, specifically optimised for Galaxy smartphones. This claims to ensure top-tier performance for various tasks and apps.


The significant price difference between the Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 models highlights the distinct target audiences for each device, with the Z Fold 6 aimed at power users and multitaskers, while the Z Flip 6 appeals to those desiring a more compact and stylish foldable option.


Galaxy Z Fold 6: Pricing And Storage Options


The book-style Galaxy Z Fold 6 is available in three configurations: Base model: 12GB RAM, 256GB storage. Mid-tier option: 12GB RAM, 512GB storage. Premium variant: 12GB RAM, 1TB storage. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 starts at $1,899 for the base model featuring 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. For users requiring more space, Samsung offers two additional variants: a 512GB version priced at $2,019 and a high-capacity 1TB model at $2,259.



Both models are now available for pre-order, with the official release date set for July 24. The clamshell-style Galaxy Z Flip 6 offers two storage options: Standard model: 12GB RAM, 256GB storage. Top-tier variant: 12GB RAM, 512GB storage.


The Galaxy Z Flip 6 presents a more affordable entry point into Samsung's foldable lineup. Its base configuration, which includes 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, is priced at $1,099. Customers seeking extra storage capacity can opt for the 512GB variant, available at $1,219.


Advanced AI Integration


Both the new models in Samsung's foldable come equipped with Samsung's proprietary Galaxy AI features, enhancing user experience and functionality. Additionally, they support Google's Circle to Search feature and the Gemini AI chatbot, expanding their capabilities in artificial intelligence (AI) and search functionalities.


Long-Term Software Support


Samsung has pledged to providing seven years of Android OS and security updates for both the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6.

The Z Fold 6 will be available in Navy, Pink, and Silver Shadow, while its compact counterpart, the Z Flip 6, offers Blue, Mint, Silver Shadow, and Yellow colour variants. Exclusive to online purchasers, Samsung is providing additional customised colourways. The Z Fold 6 will have Crafted Black and White choices, whereas the Z Flip 6 expands its online-exclusive palette to include Crafted Black, White, and Peach.

The latest iteration of Samsung's foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Z Fold 6, boasts dual-SIM functionality supporting both Nano and eSIM options. It comes with Android 14 pre-installed, featuring Samsung's custom One UI 6.1.1 interface. At its core, the device is powered by a specially optimized version of Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, accompanied by a generous 12GB of RAM.


The Z Fold 6 features two distinct displays. The external screen is a 6.3-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with HD+ resolution (968x2,376 pixels) and a pixel density of 410ppi. When unfolded, users can enjoy a larger 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex display, offering QXGA+ resolution (1,856x2,160 pixels) and 374ppi pixel density. Both screens incorporate adaptive refresh rate technology, capable of adjusting between 1Hz and 120Hz for optimal performance and energy efficiency.


Samsung's compact foldable offering, the Galaxy Z Flip 6, shares many features with its larger counterpart. It operates on the latest Android version with Samsung's custom user interface overlay. The device supports dual-SIM functionality and is driven by the same high-performance processor as the Z Fold 6, complemented by 12GB of RAM. Storage options extend up to 512GB.


The device incorporates the same array of connectivity options and sensors found in the Z Fold 6. Power is supplied by a 4,000mAh battery, which supports identical charging capabilities to its larger sibling. Security is handled by a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, and the phone boasts an IP48 rating for protection against dust and water.


For photography, the Z Flip 6 is equipped with a dual-camera setup on its exterior. The primary shooter is a 50-megapixel wide-angle lens with dual pixel autofocus, optical image stabilization, and an f/1.8 aperture. This is paired with a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera sporting an f/2.2 aperture and an expansive 123-degree field of view. For selfies and video calls, a 10-megapixel camera with an f/2.2 aperture is housed within the main screen.


The Z Flip 6 boasts two displays. When closed, users interact with a 3.4-inch Super AMOLED cover screen, featuring a resolution of 720x748 pixels, a 60Hz refresh rate, and 306 pixels per inch. The main internal display unfolds to reveal a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex panel. This screen offers Full-HD+ resolution (1,080x2,640 pixels) and employs adaptive refresh rate technology, adjusting between 1Hz and 120Hz as needed.
