Samsung remains dedicated to enhancing its consumers overall user experience by releasing frequent updates to its products. The South Korean manufacturer has now announced that it is rolling out a new feature, Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification (IHRN) for Galaxy Watch users in India. This new feature is combined with two existing ones, Blood Pressure (BP) and Electrocardiaogram (ECG) and the company has said that it will let users detect “heart rhythms suggestive of atrial fibrillation (AFib) to enable users keep better track of their health.”


For the ones who might be unaware, Atrial fibrillation, also known as AFib, is probably one of the most common arrhythmias, and it basically is an irregular heart rhythm that kicks off in the upper chambers of the heart (atria). AFib is usually asymptomatic, due to which you won't even be able to guess that something's happening, and it will increase the risk of stroke and heart failure.

Samsung Galaxy Watch New Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification Feature: Availability, Details


With the latest update to the Samsung Health Monitor app, the Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification (IHRN) feature utilises the BioActive sensor to continuously monitor for irregular heart rhythms in the background. If a certain number of irregularities are detected, the Galaxy Watch will alert you to potential AFib (Atrial Fibrillation) activity and prompt you to take an ECG reading for a more precise assessment of your cardiovascular health.


This Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification feature is supported on the Galaxy Watch 7 as well as older models like the Galaxy Watch 6, Watch 5, and Watch 4 series.


Currently, the feature is exclusive to Samsung devices. Galaxy Watch users must update the Samsung Health Monitor app to the latest version from the Galaxy Store and activate IHRN in the app’s settings menu. Although IHRN has been available on Galaxy Watches in other regions for some time, it was previously unavailable in India due to regulatory restrictions related to obtaining approval or registration as a medical device.
