Samsung Galaxy Flip 6 and Fold 6 are expected to be launched on July 10 and ahead of their launch, a number of leaks have been made about their specifications. A recent leak revealed some specifications about the devices which caught the attention of tech enthusiasts. Since the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip series, it has always featured a cover display that uses an AMOLED panel. Earlier the display used to be quite small but the Galaxy Z Flip 5 arrived in the market with a larger and more functional outer display. Now, the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 6 is expected to sport the same size cover display as its predecessor but it will incorporate a disappointing change.

According to the leaked specification sheet, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 will not be using an AMOLED display, rather it will sport an IPS LCD panel for its cover display. The display will be the same size i.e., 3.4 inches, and the resolution will also be the same 720x748 but, it will be an LCD one.

Tech enthusiasts are confused because there is no logical reasoning about the change.

LCD Instead Of AMOLED: A Typo?

The Galaxy Z Flip 5's cover display had a maximum brightness of 1,600 nits, which is slightly dim by modern standards. An updated AMOLED display could easily achieve higher brightness levels similar to an IPS LCD. It's also worth noting that Samsung hasn't used an LCD panel in any of its flagship models for quite some time.

SamMobile confirmed that as per its sources, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 will indeed retain its AMOLED cover display. The previous spec sheet mentioning an IPS display was apparently a "typo" and not final. While this seems like a significant error, the switch to IPS never really made sense in the first place.

We can expect to learn more about Samsung's decisions when the device is officially released on July 10.
