Poco, the sub-brand of handset maker Xiaomi has appointed Himanshu Tandon as the new head of its India operations, days after Xiaomi announced a major rejig within the company and elevated Alvin Tse as the new General Manager of its business in India. This development also comes after Anuj Sharma returned to Xiaomi India as as its Chief Marketing Officer.
Tandon is a veteran at the company and is a founding member of Poco in the country and he now joins Poco India as its Country Head. Before this, Tandon was heading sales at Poco India and was also leading the sales of Poco smartphones on e-commerce site Flipkart. As part of Poco India's founding team, Tandon had played a major role in the smartphone OEM's growth in India.
“In the subsequent days, Himanshu is looking forward to connecting with all of you and taking Poco to even greater heights," Poco India said in a statement.
Prior to joining Poco India, Tandon was employed as National Program Manager for Mi Stores as well as Mi Studios. According to Poco India, Tandon holds a Guinness Book of World Record for opening a record number of stores in a single day. Tandon had opened 505 stores for Poco parent Xiaomi on a single day while he was working as the project manager at the company.
He holds a post-graduate diploma in management from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore with specialisations in strategy, sales and marketing, and general management, says his LinkedIn profile.
Meanwhile, earlier last week, Xiaomi India announced a major leadership change and announced company veteran Alvin Tse as the new General Manager of its business in the country as it aims to battle growing competition from rivals such as Samsung. The handset maker also announced that Anuj Sharma, another company veteran will be rejoining Xiaomi India as its Chief Marketing Officer.
