Nothing, the smartphone brand helmed by former OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei, is gearing up for the imminent launch of its third smartphone, the Nothing Phone 2a, in India. The UK-based company has officially confirmed that the eagerly awaited device will be made available for purchase through the popular e-commerce platform Flipkart.
Preceding the official unveiling, leaked images and details of the Nothing Phone 2a have surfaced on the Internet, providing enthusiasts with a sneak peek into what to expect. The leaked images depict a sleek black variant of the Phone 2a, showcasing a distinctive design featuring a centrally positioned hole-punch cutout on the screen for the front-facing camera. Notably, the smartphone is rumoured to be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7200 SoC.
Flipkart has taken the initiative to build anticipation by creating a dedicated microsite on its platform, teasing the impending arrival of the Nothing Phone 2a. The microsite features a "Coming Soon" tag for the handset and incorporates a Nothing community update video. In this video, Akis Evangelidis, co-founder and marketing lead of Nothing, provides insights into the upcoming smartphone. Despite this, specific details regarding the launch date and key features remain undisclosed.
Furthermore, a Reddit user has shared alleged hands-on images and specifications of the Nothing Phone 2a. The images display both the front and back of the smartphone, featuring a privacy cover and showcasing a design distinct from its predecessors. Despite the presence of a privacy cover, the leaked photos reveal the existence of two rear-facing cameras, horizontally positioned closer to the centre of the back panel.
Nothing Phone 2a Specifications (Expected)
According to the leaked information, the Nothing Phone 2a is expected to run on Android 13 and sport a 6.7-inch full-HD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The device is rumoured to house the MediaTek Dimensity 7200 SoC under its hood. The camera setup is speculated to include a dual rear configuration, consisting of a 50-megapixel Samsung GN9 sensor and a 50-megapixel JN1 camera, with a 32-megapixel Sony IMX615 front camera. The smartphone is anticipated to be available in both black and white colour options.
Although an official launch date for the Nothing Phone 2a is yet to be announced, industry insiders anticipate the unveiling to occur around the time of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024, scheduled for later this month. Codenamed "Aerodactyl," the handset is confirmed to incorporate some features from the previous Nothing Phone 2 while promising an enhanced user experience compared to the initial Nothing Phone.
