Motorola has officially released the latest Moto Razr series of foldables. The brand released the Moto Razr 40 and the Moto Razr 40 Ultra, both of which are flip phones with foldable displays. The Moto Razr 40 might have made some heads turn with its relatively lower price tag of Rs 59,999, but when it comes to performance, there was no doubting which variant was the cutting-edge performer of the two.

Motorola Razr 40 Ultra Specifications

The Razr 40 Ultra comes with what Motorola claims is the world's largest external display on a flip phone — a bright 3.6-inch pOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate. Flipping open the phone reveals a brilliant 6.9-inch FHD+ pOLED display with 165Hz refresh rate. Driving this dual-screen beauty is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Generation 1 processor, with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, and Motorola's near-stock Android experience ensuring you get a near bloatware-free experience.

There are two cameras on the rear — a 12-megapixel main sensor with OIS and a 13-megapixel ultrawide, while a 32-megapixel camera inside handles selfies. The Moto Razr 40 Ultra also comes with dual stereo speakers and support for Dolby Atmos and spatial sound.

Keeping the phone running is the task of a 3,800mAh battery, which supports 30W TurboPower charging and 5W wireless charging. And of course, as this is a Razr, you get all this in an incredibly sleek, well-crafted frame that is a mere 6.9 mm slim when open, and weighs just 188 grams.

Motorola Razr 40 Ultra Price In India

All of which seems to be quite a combination of style and substance at Rs 89,999. Impressive though it is, the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra does face a fair deal of competition in the market. It comes in two colour options — Infinite Black and Viva Magenta.

If you are looking for a phone that packs in dollops of specs and style, here are some phones that could cut the Razr itself:

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4: The OG Flip

Price: Rs 89,999

People might already be looking forward to the Galaxy Z Flip 5, but the existing Galaxy Z Flip 4 remains a formidable proposition even now. Samsung was one of the first brands to get on to the foldable bandwagon and the result is that its foldables have always had an edge on the competition in terms of both hardware and software innovation. That is visible in the Z Flip4 too, right from the sleek design to the very capable hardware.
The 1.9-inch external display might seem a little small compared to the ones on the Razr 40 Ultra and the Oppo Find N2 Flip, but it works very smoothly, thanks to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset driving it. The 6.7-inch internal FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2x display with 120Hz is one of the best in the flip zone, and great for watching content.

The phone comes with a pair of superb 12-megapixel cameras on the outer side and a very good 10-megapixel camera inside for selfies. Samsung has customized its OneUI OS to ensure it works smoothly on the flip form factor and the 3,700mAh battery can see off a day of use, although we wish the brand had added a charger to the box.

Still pretty much the benchmark for Flip phones in the market, we think, and often available at a hefty discount too.

Oppo Find N2 Flip: Hasselblad Cameras & Big 'Cover Screen'

Price: Rs 89,999

Before the Razr 40 Ultra came along, it was the Oppo Find N2 Flip that was laying claim to having one of the largest external displays on a flip phone. And it still packs quite a punch. The phone sports a brilliant 3.26-inch AMOLED cover screen. Flipping the phone open reveals a 6.8-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate.

The MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ chip gives the device a lot of gaming horsepower and it also comes with dual cameras (50-megapixel main with OIS and 8-megapixel ultrawide) at the back made in collaboration with the legendary Hasselblad and a 32-megapixel camera to handle selfies. Oppo added plenty of software tweaks to its Color OS 13 on top of Android 13  to let you do more with that external display and also packed in a large-ish 4,300mAh battery with support for 44W fast charging.

Its Moonlit Purple shade still makes it one of the most attractive phones out there, and it certainly has the specs and performance to throw shade even at the mighty Razr.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3: Flip On A Budget

Price: Rs 49,999

Yes, it was released in 2021 and if you push it, it shows the odd sign of age in terms of lags and stutters. But if you are looking for a flip smartphone on a tight budget, this is perhaps as good as it gets right now.

The Galaxy Z Flip3 still cuts a very smart figure with its premium aluminium frame, and 1.9-inch external display (which is a little basic by 2023 standards but is still awesome for notifications). The internal 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate is a very good one, although the 'crease' in it is a little more visible than in newer flip phones.

The Snapdragon 888 chip remains a powerful proposition capable of handling most tasks easily, and the dual 12-megapixel rear cameras deliver great pictures and videos even now. The 10-megapixel selfie camera is a good performer for snaps and video calls, although the 3,300mAh battery is a bit of a letdown and struggles to get through a day.

Samsung has updated it to Android 13 as well and it works a treat too.

Tecno Phantom V Fold: New To Foldable Star Wars, But Already A Phantom Menace

Price: Rs 88,888

This is not a flip phone like others, but it is of the foldable breed, only the sort that opens vertically and morphs into a tablet rather than a regular-sized phone. But its price puts the Tecno Phantom V Fold into the Ultra competitive zone.

It certainly delivers a hefty dollop of foldable magic, with a large 6.42-inch AMOLED FHD+ display on the outside and a massive 7.85-inch 2,000x2,296 pixels AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate inside. Unlike some of the other foldable in the Indian market, this one can be comfortably used as a phone even when shut, although the tablet mode needs some work (oh, Android!).

The Phantom V Fold is powered by the impressive MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ chip and also boasts a very decent set of cameras - a 50-megapixel main sensor, a 50-megapixel telephoto and a 13-megapixel ultrawide, with selfies being handled by a 16-megapixel snapper.

A big 5,000mAh battery keeps it going, with support for 45W charging. At almost 300 grams, this is literally a heavyweight in terms of both features and size, but it is one of the best phone-to-tab foldable you can get for five figures.

Only time will tell if it becomes a worthy participant of the foldable Star Wars, but at its price, it is potentially a Phantom Menace for the Moto Razr 40 Ultra.
