In a strategic move aimed at reducing its reliance on China and diversifying its manufacturing base, Apple has commenced the production phase of its highly anticipated iPhone 15 in Tamil Nadu, reports Bloomberg. The tech giant's collaboration with Foxconn Technology Group marks a significant step forward in its efforts to balance its manufacturing operations between the two countries. As per the report, sources reveal that the production facility operated by Foxconn in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, is gearing up to start dispatching the latest iPhone 15 units shortly after their initial rollout from Chinese factories.
This strategic manoeuvre is part of a broader initiative to accelerate the production of iPhones in India, insiders familiar with the situation indicate.
Apple's strategic push for multiyear diversification away from China stems from concerns about the vulnerability of its supply chain. The ongoing trade tensions between Washington and Beijing have underscored the importance of decentralizing production operations for critical products.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's administration has actively sought to cultivate closer ties with the United States while simultaneously positioning India as a formidable manufacturing hub. The commencement of iPhone 15 production in Tamil Nadu aligns with this dual-pronged agenda.
Sources hint that this year's objective revolves around harmonizing shipment schedules from India and China, a challenge that suppliers are cautiously optimistic about meeting. Due to the sensitivity of the information, the sources requested anonymity, as the details are not yet public.
The extent of iPhone 15 production in the country will hinge on the availability of crucial components, most of which are imported. Additionally, the seamless scaling up of production lines at the Foxconn facility near Chennai will play a pivotal role in determining the success of this endeavour, according to the report.
The forthcoming iPhone 15, anticipated to be unveiled around September 12, marks a significant leap forward for the device after a three-year span. Notable enhancements include a substantial upgrade to the camera system across all models, while the Pro variants are set to feature the advanced 3-nanometer A16 processor.
The upcoming lineup of iPhones holds immense significance for Apple's revenue trajectory. The company recently announced its third consecutive quarter of declining sales, attributed to subdued consumer interest in key markets like the United States, China, and Europe.
In addition to Foxconn, other Apple suppliers with operations in India, including Pegatron Corp. and a Wistron Corp. facility in the process of being acquired by the Tata Group, are also expected to initiate assembly of the iPhone 15, according to Bloomberg's sources.
