The launch of the iPad Air (6th gen) is expected to be just a day away. The release is rumoured to take place at the 'Let Loose' event which will be held on Tuesday (May 7). The sixth generation of iPad will be launched after a gap of two years since the last iPad was launched by Apple. The upcoming device has been rumoured to bring a number of new features in the hands of the users which is expected to bridge the gap between the iPad Pro series. Let us go through what all we know about iPad Air (6th gen) and its launch.

iPad Air (6th Gen): Launch Date, Price (Expected)

Apple is set to unveil the latest iPad Air series alongside the iPad Pro on May 7, with sales expected to start the following week.

In terms of pricing, the 11-inch iPad is anticipated to retain the same price as its previous model (Rs 59,900), while the 12.9-inch variant may see an increase of around Rs 10,000 in India.

iPad Air (6th Gen): Specifications (Expected)

According to recent reports, these iPad Air models will continue to feature a standard LED panel, known as Liquid Retina display by Apple. Although mini LED displays offer enhanced contrast levels and brightness compared to regular LED panels, they also come with a higher production cost. It appears that Apple may opt for regular LED panels to effectively manage manufacturing costs. The refresh rate is predicted to remain at 60 Hz. Additionally, the bezels on the upcoming models are expected to resemble those of the 5th Gen iPad Air.

Apple has built a reputation for adopting swift PCIe storage technologies, a trend the 6th Generation iPad Air is poised to continue. Unlike its predecessor, which caps at 256 GB of storage, the upcoming model is rumoured to offer a substantial upgrade with up to 1 TB of storage space.

The tech giant is anticipated to adjust the front-facing camera's orientation from portrait to landscape to enrich the video calling experience, mirroring a shift seen in the 10th Gen iPad. However, leaks from Instant Digital suggest that despite this adjustment, the camera's specifications will likely remain unchanged. The iPad Air is expected to house a 12 MP sensor for its front camera, with a matching 12 MP camera anticipated on the device's rear.

The current iPad Air, powered by the M1 chip, already boasts significant power. The forthcoming model is speculated to receive a boost with the M2 chip, promising substantial improvements in CPU, GPU, and AI performance. Furthermore, Apple might elevate the base model's storage capacity to 128 GB, doubling the existing amount, and equip it with at least 8 GB of RAM. These added resources are positioned to support upcoming AI features slated for WWDC 2024.

Both variants of the iPad Air are predicted to feature larger batteries, possibly incorporating enhanced fast-charging capabilities. With a more efficient chip, these models could offer extended battery life. Similar to the iPhone 15, Apple may introduce new battery technologies to prolong the overall lifespan of these batteries.

iPad Air (6th Gen): Size, Colour Options (Expected)

Apple is expected to unveil the 6th generation iPad Air in two size variants: a standard 11-inch model and a larger 12.9-inch model.

Apple is renowned for its vibrant colour options for the iPad Air, a trend expected to continue this year. The upcoming iPad Air models are also anticipated to showcase a premium metal unibody design, an integrated Touch ID power button, a USB-C port, and a quad-speaker setup.
