Google Pixel 9a is expected to be announced tomorrow, March 19. The affordable smartphone, poised to take on the likes of the iPhone 16e or Samsung Galaxy A56, will be priced at Rs 49,999, according to people with knowledge of the matter. If this holds, this would mark Google's departure from two things: firstly, a Pixel-a series phone to be priced under Rs 50,000 (the Pixel 8a was launched at Rs 52,999). Secondly, an earlier launch of a Pixel-a series phone, which is usually launched in May, during the Google I/O event.

It should be noted that Google is yet to confirm the price or any other detail regarding the Google Pixel 9a, so consider this report with a pinch of salt.

Of course, as always, we can expect to see Google Pixel 8a be available for purchase via Flipkart, as it is Google's official reseller in India. We can also expect to see some launch offers, however, we don't have any confirmation on them at the time of writing.

At this price point, Google Pixel 9a will surely give Apple's "cheapest" new iPhone, the iPhone 16e, a run for its money, especially considering the ready availability of Pixel's signature AI tools, excellent cameras, and the latest Tensor G4 chip, which also powers the other Pixel 9 phones.

Google Pixel 9a Specifications (Expected)

Google Pixel 9a is expected to carry a similar 6.3-inch display as Google Pixel 9 with support for HDR and up to 2,700 nits of peak brightness. Powered by the Tensor G4 SoC, the Pixel 9a could rely on 8GB of RAM for performance and is expected to offer two storage options: 128GB and 256GB.

When it comes to optics, the Google Pixel 9a will be slightly downgraded from the Pixel 9. The 9a is expected to carry a dual rear camera setup, marked by a 48-megapixel wide-angle camera, with a 13-megapixel ultrawide snapper. The vanilla Pixel 9, on the other hand, has a 50-megapixel (wide) + 48-megapixel (ultrawide camera with macro focus). This stands in contrast with the iPhone 16e, which comes with a single "Fusion" camera which is basically a 48-megapixel snapper with a 2x telephoto zoom built in.

In terms of power, the Pixel 9a is expected to get a slightly bigger (5,100 mAh) battery when compared to the Pixel 9's 4,700 mAh cell.
