Google might introduce only two models in its upcoming Pixel 9 lineup in India on August 14, rather than the full range. The company's Indian online store has been updated to showcase only two models: the Google Pixel 9 Pro and Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold, while the company is said to introduce four models in its Pixel lineup of devices next week.
Notably, the introduction of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold marks a significant milestone for the Indian market, as it will be the first foldable device from Google to be officially released in the country. This launch strategy suggests Google's intent to expand its presence in the premium smartphone segment in India, offering consumers access to its latest technology, increasing competition for Samsung Galaxy Z Fold (read our review here), OnePlus Open and others.

Google To Unveil 4 Models In Pixel 9 Lineup
For context, industry speculations and rumours suggests that Google will unveil four Pixel 9 variants at a global event slated for August 13. These are expected to include the standard Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. However, the Indian market may only see the release of the Pixel Pro and Pixel Pro Fold versions, based on the current listings on Google's India-specific online store.
Further supporting this theory, Google India shared a teaser image on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that features just two smartphone models. This visual hint aligns with the information available on their website, suggesting a focused release strategy for the Indian market.
It is worth noting that this information is based on current observations and may be subject to change as the official launch date approaches. Prospective buyers and Pixel enthusiasts in India should stay tuned for further announcements from Google regarding the availability of Pixel 9 models in the country.
Pixel To Make Debut In India A Day After Made By Google Event
Google has officially announced that the Pixel 9 series will make its debut in India on the day following the worldwide "Made by Google" hardware event. This new flagship lineup is expected to feature four distinct models, with the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro Fold already confirmed as part of the roster. These two devices are set to succeed last year's Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel Fold, respectively. Google has confirmed that both models will be available for purchase in India through the e-commerce platform Flipkart.
While details about the other two rumored models in the series remain unconfirmed for the Indian market, tech enthusiasts and potential buyers are eagerly anticipating more information as the launch date approaches. The arrival of these high-end devices could potentially shake up the competitive landscape of the Indian smartphone market, especially in the premium segment.
Google Pixel 9 Series Specifications (Expected)
The Google Pixel 9 XL phone has apparently been named after its 6.8” display, an OLED panel with 1,344 x 2,992px resolution and up to 3,000 nits of brightness. Notably, some earlier leaks suggested that it might feature a 6.73” diagonal and lower brightness. The display will sport a Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection and will feature a punch-hole seflie camera of 42-megapixel with an f/2.2 lens.
If we talk about the back camera setup, then it will be led by a 50-megapixel wide camera with an f/1.68 lens and will be backed by a 48MP 5x periscope (f/2.8) and a 48MP ultra wide (123°, f/1.7).
As per earlier leaks, the primary camera lens will be a Samsung GNK 1/1.31” sensor, and it will have OIS. The ultra wide module is expected to use the Sony IMX585 (1/2.51”) lens. These two cameras will be featured on all three Pixel 9 models. For the Google Pixel 9 Pro and Google Pixel 9 Pro XL specifically, the tele module will use the IMX858 sensor plus OIS. It is important to note that the Pixel 9 Pro Fold will use a different camera setup.
If we talk about the battery, there’s no word on that in this leak but as per previous leaks, a battery capacity of 5,060mAh and 45W wired charging (wireless speed TBD) speed was revealed for one of its variants.
Needless to say, the Google Pixel 9 series phones will come with Gemini AI-powered functions. Users are expected to be able to use the Pixel Studio AI to create images. The reimagine feature will transform an object in a photo into something else. In addition to all this, there will also be an AI-powered weather app that will provide summaries and outfit tips.
