Samsung's flagship "Galaxy Unpacked" event is likely to be held on the tech giant's home turf in South Korea, a senior Samsung executive hinted on Friday, according to news agency Yonhap. The South Korean tech behemoth is likely to host its Unpacked event in Seoul, its headquarters, for the first time. According to a top Samsung executive, the handset maker would hold the "summer edition" of Galaxy Unpacked in South Korea.
When asked about the venue for the upcoming global event, Lee Young-hee, President of the Global Marketing Center for Samsung's Device eXperience (DX) division was quoted as saying by Yonhap: "Seoul is meaningful and important." There are no official details about the date or the venue of the Galaxy Unpacked event, but rumours claim it will happen on July 26 at COEX in Gangnam-Gu, Seoul.
Samsung holds its Galaxy Unpacked event twice a year -- once in February and again in August in Europe or the US. Earlier in February, Samsung hosted an event in San Francisco and introduced three models in the flagship Galaxy S23 series. However, according to Lee, this was the strongest implication yet from Samsung that Seoul is high on the list for the biannual event.
It is pertinent to note that Samsung maintained a lead in India's declining smartphone market in the first quarter (Q1) of 2023. India's smartphone shipments suffered the highest-ever decline and fell 19 per cent YoY in the first quarter according to Counterpoint’s Market Monitor service report. This was the highest-ever Q1 decline witnessed by India smartphone market, besides being the third consecutive quarterly decline. Xiaomi saw a significant drop from Q1 2022, falling to the third spot during Q1 2023 with a 16 per cent share.
Meanwhile, tech giants Apple and Samsung are interested in increasing electronics production in India, Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar recently said, according to a report by Bloomberg.
